Cleaning & Prevention
Protect your smile for life with preventive dentistry. Our team partners with patients to provide a high level of care to maintain a healthy smile for life.
Success Client Story
Laura Sander and her family became patients and completed their regularly scheduled hygiene cleanings. As new patients, each family member received digital x-rays so our team can monitor their oral health and check for any changes that may occur over time. The advanced technology lets our team see even the smallest of cavities so we can treat them immediately before they become a bigger problem. Our dental assistants are highly trained in digital x-ray administration so every experience is comfortable, quick and thorough. After the initial consult, the family had a professional cleaning from our hygiene team.
Don’t just take it from us, hear what the patient has to say:
“My family has been coming here for years they are the best! even my kids love them! We love coming to Ranieu Dental for cleanings! keep up the great work” – Laura Sander

Cleaning & Prevention Services
Our team partners with you to create a preventive care plan that fits your lifestyle. At-home care is an important component of total oral health and our team will work with you to establish a routine and recommend products to enhance your experience and care. Enhance your daily oral health care routine and turn frustration into smiles!
Nutritional counseling is part of our preventive care because what you eat plays a critical role in oral health. Acidic foods and drinks can accelerate deterioration of your teeth, and certain foods can enhance the health of your supporting jawbone and gums. Our team believes in bringing your efforts and ours into balance for optimum health.
Paired with at-home care, regular dental exams and cleanings are necessary to prevent decay and gum disease. This proactive approach can prevent minor issues from becoming major procedures.
Everyone loves the clean, smooth feeling of freshly polished teeth. Our registered dental hygienists help you maintain optimal oral even beyond polished teeth. During each professional cleaning, your hygienist removes bacteria that deposits on your teeth and can lead to dental disease (cavities or gum disease). At each visit, your hygienist monitors your oral condition to check for any changes so it can be treated before it becomes a bigger problem.

Patients who receive regular preventive care have significantly fewer problems over time. This proactive approach prevents conditions from worsening which requires more treatment, time and financial commitment. Patients who receive dental cleanings every six months receive a cleaning and exam. Even with a good at-home care routine, deposits of plaque called tartar form on your teeth and if left untreated can produce a toxic environment for your teeth and gums, which leads to gum disease. Once this happens treatment for gum disease can be much more intensive than a simple dental cleaning where tartar is gently removed before a polish.
Oral Cancer Screening
An oral cancer screening is an essential part of your visit to our office. During this screening, we are feeling for any lumps and irregular looking tissue changes in your head, neck, cheeks, and oral cavity. We also examine the soft tissues of your mouth looking for sores or discolored areas. Even non-tobacco users can get oral cancer, so it’s important every patient receives a thorough exam. Oral cancer is aggressive and fast growing, and there may not be any symptoms until the disease has advanced. But your dentist will notice any changes during the regular exam. Early detection usually means a more successful treatment.

- We know that oral cancer kills more people than skin cancer and cervical cancer.
- Oral cancer can afflict anyone although tobacco users put themselves at significantly higher risk than non-users. Chewing tobacco contains up to 3000 different chemicals, including the same compounds used in pesticides and embalming fluid. Cellular changes below the surface aren’t always detectable until they’ve advanced to a critical stage.
- Approximately 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year.
- The five-year survival rate is less than 18%.
- Early detection increases the survival rate to 80%.
- Our team is committed to seeing those numbers drop by early detection. We will be doing an intra-oral and extra-oral exam each time you come to our office for a hygiene appointment.
- If we suspect any unusual changes in your mouth tissue, we may suggest a biopsy and microscopic analysis by a qualified lab.
Many other non-cancerous changes can occur in your mouth’s tissue, from oral warts to autoimmune lesions.
We understand tobacco holds powerful addictive powers over many health-conscious people. If you’re determined to quit, we want to be a supportive partner in your efforts. Talk to your hygienist or Dr. Ranola about strategies and resources for kicking the habit.
